What do successful people do to stay in shape?

In a recent interview, he was asked how he stays productive. His response was simple “work out” Branson undertakes several different activates from yoga to rock climbing and this allows him to increase his productivity each day by clearing his mind and giving him the increased energy and focus he needs to run his billion dollar companies.

Barack Obama who admits that he is not a morning person, wakes up early and starts his day with 45-minutes of exercise. He sticks to a routine of strength and cardio 6 days a week and is also known to play basketball. If Obama has time, I’m sure we can all find some time to get moving and to get sweaty.

Not all exercise needs to be intense, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi goes for a 45-minute power walk each morning. In this time, she plans her day ahead and calls her staff to check in. Showing that exercise does not need to take time out of your day, power walking can be a great way to keep your metabolism fired up, burn some calories, but also to gather your thoughts or plan your day.

If these busy and highly successful people can find the time to get moving, I think we all can. Exercise doesn’t have to involve a gym, it doesn’t need to take up hours of your day either. With a range of activities from meditation, to walking to rock climbing, the people I have spoken about in my blog have shown that any kind of movement can help you to maintain a level of focus and energy as well physical health and weight.

So, new year, new you? Don’t just say it this year…Do it. Change your mental attitude towards your health and follow in the footsteps of some of the world’s most successful and powerful people.

Citigroup’s CEO Michael Corbat follows a fat torching exercise routine called the Spartacus Workout. Corbat says that the routine of dumbbell lifts, press-ups and squats helps him to stay lean and maintain the focus needed to run one of the biggest financial organisations in the world.

Oprah Winfrey, one of the most successful and powerful women in the world swears by her personal training sessions to keep her physically and mentally healthy. She works out 6 times a week combining 45 minutes of cardio with strength training and lots of stretching. But this is not all she does, like Pete, Oprah sees the importance of mediation and affirmations and spends 20 minutes alone and in complete silence twice a day.
