We’ve all said it and I have been guilty of it in the past…Why do I bother?
For some, weight loss can be easy, but for others it can be a long process and can feel like an arduous task. Unfortunately, we cannot predict how long it will take as everyone is different, but we do know that with dedication and consistency you can lose weight and feel better.
When it comes to health and fitness it’s not all about weight. Eating well and exercising comes with many other benefits both physical and mental!
Stress Relief & Mental Well Being
Exercising increases your endorphins which give us the feeling of euphoria and gives you a sense of achievement. It also aids a restful sleep which in turn will reduce stress levels and increase energy. Eating well also maintains brain function and stabilises moods and can combat depression.
Reduced Risk of Disease
Eating well and exercising regularly can dramatically reduce your risk of serious disease such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Increase in Lean Muscle Mass
This will help to maintain or even speed up your metabolism. As we age, our muscle mass reduces, which can lead to people feeling frail and weak. Maintaining a healthy level of muscle allows you to enjoy your later years, support your joints and also avoid that old age stomach.
Something which holds a lot of value to the older generation and those with a low BMI (under 18). Weight-bearing and impact exercise helps to maintain your bone density. Something that menopausal women need to be aware of (yes, unfortunately us women get the short end of the stick when it comes to our bones due to the drop in oestrogen in our bodies) But we can avoid osteopenia and osteoporosis (brittle bones) by exercising regularly, thus avoiding the chances of breaking bone.
Although the kilos may not be dropping off the increase of calories burnt and the reduction of calories will ultimately stop you from piling on the pounds.
A lot of younger people take this for granted, but as you get older you tend to move less. Regular exercise can keep you pushing pulling, bending and twisting. Keeping your body supple and moving is valuable to everyone.
If you’re finding it frustrating don’t give up! Although weight loss may be your optimal goal, your journey towards that goal is having many positive effects on your body. So stop beating yourself up and keep going!
Whether you’re looking to stay active and strong during pregnancy, tone up, or lose weight, Nikki has the tools and dedication you need to achieve your goals.
